Dallin’s weekend with Grandpa and Grandma

 

It was the Saturday that Mikayla had her birthday party. Dallin got to go to the skating rink and skate with them.

then we went to the Olive Garden for dinner. He did not get to play all week end. Grandpa, Dallin and Paul clean the roof and gutters on Friday when they got home from California. We took him home on Sunday.

Returning home with truck

We stopped for lunch Thursday at Dunsmuir, CA. They received 5 feet of snow in one day last week.

We spent Thursday night at Stacey’s Uncle Dan’s home and he had dinner ready for us when we arrived – rib-eye stake and baked potato. We had a good night sleep and were on the road again about 6AM Friday morning. We met Bonnie at the Pearl St building in Tacoma and picked up Dallin to spend the weekend with us and arrived home about noon. It is good to be home after being gone since Monday morning.

It almost looks like the truck and our trailer were made to go together.

Bringing the Truck home

Yesterday, we had to stop to do repairs on the truck so we could continue the trip home – windshield wiper blades had to be replaced. And we had to add some diesel fuel to the tank. That’s it, no problems. And that big engine just runs done the road without a load like a horse that has gotten out of the pasture and is free.

We arrived in Sacramento about 11PM at the Bitnoff’s to have a good night sleep, a good shower and breakfast. (It is so good to be associated with such good people. Thank you, Jared, for making that association for us.)

 

Today we leave and will arrive at ‘Uncle Dan’s’ in Salem, Or this evening.

On the way to SoCal

So I am on the way. Road the Sounder to Seattle and then boarded Amtrak and and headed south.

 

As I went through Tacoma, I saw where James is currently  working.

It is a clear, sunny day in the Pacific Northwest.

As we approached Kelso, we also approached rain clouds.

 

 

 

And as we cross the Columbia River into Portland, yep, it is raining and 1:30 Monday afternoon. Oh, that is the front of the train I am on. I am in the last car taking the picture out the window.

Tuesday morning 5:39 AM

We are at Sacramento, CA. I don’t know how long we will be here. I heard we were scheduled to arrive here about 6:30 so we are early. I expect we will leave at the scheduled departure time, so we might be here for more than an hour.

It bums me out that there is no strong wifi signal here. I thought for sure I would have signal in Sacramento.

I did sleep for about 6 hours. I did see us cross Lake Shasta and it is holding a lot more water than the last time I saw it.

I saw about 10 inches of snow in the area we traveled through before we got to Shasta.

I am sitting in Union Station LA waiting for the train to Oceanside. I we on the train from Seattle for 36 hours. There is wifi here so I will post this and check e-mail.

Preparing for Retirement

This is the truck I am going to SoCal to bring back north. (It began life in Eugene, OR)

I leave Monday morning and will be met at the Oceanside train station late (11:55PM) Tuesday evening by Judy Buhl. They will do a show & tell Wednesday morning and, if all is well, I hand over a cashier’s check and they hand over the keys. I then meet Paul in Ontario, CA and we spend Wednesday evening with Crystal’s folks. (If all is not well, I don’t have plans on how Paul or I will get home. Long walk)

Dallin’s Birthday

We spent the afternoon (1/17/10) at Bonnie’s for Dallin’s birthday. The kids had fun playing with Grandma’s camera and Dallin enjoyed his birthday ‘blondies’.
